Vortex can provide a range of Heatpak hot water boilers and combustion plants that are modular in design and can cover a range of output options between 125-2390kW. One of our clients utilises waste wood from their production process as fuel for the Heatpak hot water boiler to provide under floor heating for the factory.

The Heatpak hot water boilers feature a 3 pass high efficiency design and give the user hot water at up to 90°C at atmospheric pressure.

The underfeed stokers that come with the Heatpak can be tuned to provide a clean controlled efficient combustion and in conjunction with a Vortex High Efficiency Cyclone and a Fuel Storage Bin provide a complete package for the user.

The underfeed stokers can take a range of solid fuels including:

  • Coal
  • Wood pellets
  • Wood shavings and sawdust
  • MDF dust
  • Hogged wood waste

Fuel Storage Silos and Bins are equipped with out-feed mechanisms to provide a reliable discharge rate of the product.

The discharge can be configured to suit the end use ( i.e. slow consistent feed to a boiler or high speed to feed to dump trucks ). Usually a Pneumatic or Mechanical conveying system is required to fill the silo. Due to their low footprint, storage silos provide optimal fuel storage within a limited amount of space. The addition of a Vortex Hammer Mill considerably increases the utilization of this space by increasing fuel density.

Fuel Storage Bins are live floor bins which are custom designed to suit the customer’s needs.

The type of bin depends on several key factors:

  • Fuel type ( i.e. bark ,shavings, sawdust, chips, coal, biomass)
  • Desired storage volume
  • Desired feed out rate

The out-feed of these can be fitted with a vibrating screen or Rotary Valve to ensure the fuel size and feed rate are suited to downstream processes.

Each fuel type has specific characteristics that determine what type of floor can be used.

Types of storage bins we offer:

  • Push floors: using reciprocating ladders driven by a hydraulic power pack. These floors offer good control over the feed-out rates of coal and sawdust. Bin sizes range from 30m³ to 1200m³. They are popular with coal users due to the ability to drive on the floor to dump fuel.
  • Travelling screw bins: excellent for shavings and sawdust. Screw feeder bins have controlled feed rates and the ability to split the bins into zones so that the same bin can be used to handle multiple fuel types.

Vortex have been supplying kilns and managing kiln projects for over 15 years. Vortex timber drying kilns are available in many configurations. We use the benefits of our experience to design the kilns and the benefits of batch manufacturing to allow us to economically customize your kilns to your needs.

All kilns include state of the art computer controlled drying systems providing optimum quality and proven performance.

We offer full turnkey projects right through to component supply only.

Our XTV range of kilns are made using complete aluminum construction with stainless steel heating coils and internal pipe work.

Final specifications are developed with the client and even though we have standard sizes we can be very flexible to ensure the system works best for the customer.

The XTV range covers low temperature kilns for large sections and hardwoods right through to high temperature kilns for structural grade lumber.

Fuel feed bins and Silos

FORKLIFT LOADED: Convenient and economical for slow drying such as hardwoods. Kiln sizes range from 30m3 to 500m3. These are the lowest capital investment and offer good flexibility. Typically forklift loaded from the front, these kilns can have a range of door configurations from hinged, lifting slides or bi-fold.

TUNNEL KILNS: Popular in Radiata pine drying because of the high throughput, quality drying results and fast turnaround. Kiln sizes range from 30m3 to 300m3. These kilns are available in single or double track configurations. Double tracks have reheat coils between the two stacks to ensure even drying. Vortex kilns promote the use of high airspeed and good design to ensure the end product is of the highest quality.

STEAMING CHAMBERS: These kilns come again in all aluminum construction, with stainless steel internal pipe work and boiling baths. The high steam generation in these kilns offers effective reconditioning or preconditioning of lumber or logs.
