Rotary valves are used to allow product to flow from a hopper under a filter or cyclone for example, into a pressure environment which is different than that of the main hopper such as blow line.

The valve selection is dependent on a number of factors including pressure variations:

Low Pressure:

The Vortex RA series valves have circular inlet and outlet flanges and an open ended flexible or hard tipped rotor. These valves are fabricated from laser cut parts to provide a reliable light duty valve. They are typically used when the material flow is low and the pressure differential between the inlet and the outlet of the rotary valve is less than 3kPa.

Medium Pressure:

The RB series valves are fabricated from laser cut parts to provide a reliable medium duty valve. They have rectangular inlet and outlet flanges and are available with flexible or rigid rotor tips. They are typically used when the material flow is higher and the pressure differential between the inlet and the outlet of the rotary valve is less than 7kPa.

High Pressure:

The Vortex RF Rotary Valves are specifically designed for feeding material into high pressure blow lines.

They are typically used when the material flow is high and the pressure differential between the inlet and the outlet of the rotary valve is less than 60kPa.

The RF valve range has a swept volume from 0.020m³/rev up to 0.30m³/rev. Vortex RF Rotary Valves consist of a heavy duty match machined rotor and barrel. The rotor tips are hardened and machined to ensure close tolerance, thus reducing leakage and wear. The barrel is heat stabilised to maintain the machined tolerance.

  • REPLACEABLE ROTOR TIPS – Easily adjustable to maintain the airlock
  • ADJUSTABLE END PLATE SEALS- Allows accurate setting of end clearance
  • SHEAR KNIVES - Adjustable knives, mounted horizontally into the side of the valve to shear product off the rotor blade tips.
  • QUICK CHANGE KNIVES - A spare blade can be supplied complete with a setting jig. The jig allows the blade to be sharpened and set up outside the valve, ready for quick changeover, thus reducing downtime and allowing more frequent change outs to maintain valve performance.
  • SHAFT MOUNTED GEARBOX – to avoid excessive bending movements in the shaft
  • VSD PROTECTION - The valves come with a Variable speed drive to ensure no overload situation can damage the valve.
  • AUTO CLEAR FUNCTION - The VSD has a built in program, to reverse the valve in the event of a blockage. If the blockage cannot be cleared successfully the valve shuts down. An alarm output notifies the operators.
  • VENTED RETURN SIDE – Important for very light fluffy products

Vortex can offer a range of Diverter Valves including:

ROTATING FLAP DIVERTER VALVES: These are used in low pressure and low dust flow applications. These use a solid deflector blade to switch between 1 of 2 outlet ports. These are the lowest cost valves available but do not offer an air tight seal.

SLIDE FLEXIBLE PIPE DIVERTER VALVES: These are typically used in high pressure and medium dust flow. These valves use a heavy duty flexible pipe to switch between any 1 of up to 6 outlets. Vortex Slide diverter valves use a pneumatic seal as standard to give a clean airtight diverter valve.

ROTARY DIVERTER VALVES: These use a solid offset pipe, rotating to different outlets: typically these are used in high pressure and high dust flow. The pipe can be built in any weight and any configuration. These valves can divert from 1 to up 16 outlet ports making them very versatile. Vortex Rotary Diverter Valves use a pneumatic seal as standard to give a clean airtight diverter valve.
